In the Rotunda’s NICU, facilitates the initiation of resuscitation, as needed, whilst attached to the placental circulation.
Thanks to the tremendous fundraising efforts of parents, Paul Richardson and Zowie Read last year, the Rotunda Foundation was able to purchase this life-saving equipment for the Rotunda’s NICU.
The Lifestart System also has enabled Mark Hollywood (Neonatal A&P), Lyudmyla Zakharchenko (Neonatal Consultant) and Christina Kilpatrick (Neonatal Resuscitation Training Officer) to commence the RCPI Postgraduate Certificate in Quality Improvement & Leadership. The initiative that the team hope to introduce as part of their course is ‘the introduction of the Lifestart Machine in order to facilitate the initiation of resuscitation, as needed, whilst attached to the placental circulation’.
The equipment has enabled the Rotunda NICU to be the first neonatal unit in Ireland to introduce this type of resuscitation.
