Originally from rural Ireland’s Midlands, Sonia’s artistic journey has taken her from the vibrant underground club scene of 1990s London to becoming an acclaimed contemporary artist. Her work is known for its bold expression, rich oils, luminous layers and remarkable use of colour and texture.

Sonia’s life has been marked by great love, profound loss and incredible resilience. Throughout it all, art has remained a powerful means of expression, allowing her to transform life’s most difficult experiences into something meaningful and beautiful.

“Fractured” has a particularly moving story behind it. Following knee replacement surgery, Sonia found herself struggling with significant pain and insomnia. Unable to sleep and kept away from her usual studio routine, she turned once again to painting. The result was “Fractured” — her abstract visual interpretation of pain.

Rather than simply depicting physical suffering, Sonia has channelled that experience into a compelling work of art, capturing the intensity, disruption and emotional complexity of pain through her distinctive abstract style. A graduate of the National College of Art and Design (NCAD) with a BA (Hons) in Fine Art, Ruth is both an accomplished artist and a yoga teacher, bringing a wonderful sense of freedom, movement and spontaneity to her creative work.

Inspired by the flowers that fill her home, the beauty of botanical gardens and the natural world, Ruth’s paintings are bursting with life and personality.

Her distinctive style combines watercolour and ink, allowing colours to flow, blend and interact in unexpected ways. Working quickly with a wet-on-wet technique, she creates loose, playful and expressive compositions filled with vibrant colour and energy.

Ruth’s yoga practice is also central to her artistic approach. The freedom of movement, mindfulness and ability to see the world from a different perspective all influence her paintings. Rather than controlling every detail, she embraces spontaneity and allows each artwork to develop naturally.
